Why does Participatory Communication matter?

Welcome to my blog. I am a post-grad student at the University of Burgos specializing in communication. For my dissertation, I am exploring the practical application of participatory communication in social mobilization and development. To know more about me and my academic projects, you may consult the following:
For my first entry, I would like to share a video that talks about the importance of participatory communication in development work and how it is often relegated to the sidelines despite its great potential in addressing a range of problems.

Participatory Communication is often associated with another communication field called Communication for Development and Social Change. Its early development can be traced to the implementation of  various projects in developing countries. It is only lately that it has started to gain traction in Spain as a framework and a strategy for approaching development goals. My study explores ways by which key concepts of Participatory Communication can be adapted to the present realities of rural Spain through important social movements aligned with the fight against rural depopulation.
